Bible Reading Plan 9/6 to 9/12
Path 1: New Testament and Psalms
In Acts 5–7, the church grows despite hypocrisy within and persecution without. The apostles continue preaching Christ publicly, refusing to stop when authorities command silence. Stephen’s speech traces Israel’s history of resisting God’s messengers and culminates in his martyrdom, showing both the seriousness of rejecting Christ and the courage produced by the Spirit.
Path 2: Old Testament Pentateuch/History
In Judges 10–12, Israel again abandons the Lord and suffers oppression. God raises Jephthah, an outcast warrior, to deliver them from the Ammonites, yet his story is marked by rashness, conflict, and tragedy. The cycle of Judges continues to reveal both God’s mercy and the deep disorder produced by covenant unfaithfulness.
Leadership Cannot Compensate for Spiritual Disorder: Jephthah can win battles, but he cannot repair Israel’s deeper covenant corruption. His leadership brings temporary relief while the nation remains spiritually disordered, and his own rashness reflects that brokenness. Judges warns families, churches, and nations against expecting strong leaders or political victories to substitute for repentance, wisdom, and faithful submission to God’s authority.
Path 3: Old Testament Wisdom/Prophecy
In Jeremiah 28–30, false prophets promise quick peace, but Jeremiah insists that Babylonian judgment must first run its course. Yet amid discipline, God promises restoration, renewed covenant blessing, and the return of his people. Jeremiah 30 looks beyond present suffering toward a future in which the Lord breaks foreign oppression and restores his covenant people.
The Danger of False Peace: Hananiah offers Judah an attractive message of rapid deliverance, but confidence and optimism do not make prophecy true. Jeremiah 28 teaches that God’s people must test comforting claims by God’s revealed word. Religious leaders who 'please the ears' while minimizing sin can strengthen rebellion rather than faith, making biblical truth more necessary than reassuring rhetoric.
