Bible Reading Plan 8/30 to 9/5
Path 1: New Testament and Psalms
In Acts 1–4, the risen Jesus commissions his apostles, ascends to heaven, and pours out the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The gospel begins spreading from Jerusalem through bold preaching, miraculous signs, and a growing covenant community. Opposition quickly arises, yet the apostles proclaim Christ’s resurrection and kingship with increasing confidence.
Christ Reigns from Heaven: Jesus’ ascension is not a retreat from earthly affairs, but the enthronement of the risen King who sends his Spirit and advances his kingdom through the church. Acts 1 therefore frames the church’s mission as an extension of Christ’s heavenly rule, moving outward through faithful witness until the nations hear the gospel and acknowledge his authority.
Path 2: Old Testament Pentateuch/History
In Judges 7–9, God reduces Gideon’s army so Israel cannot boast that its own strength defeated Midian. Yet Gideon’s later actions reveal growing compromise, and his son Abimelech seizes power through violence. The narrative shows how a God-given deliverance can be followed by pride, idolatry, and corrupt attempts at kingship.
God Removes Grounds for Boasting: In Judges 7, God deliberately reduces Gideon’s army so Israel cannot claim victory by its own strength. The victory is unmistakably the Lord’s. This pattern guards God’s people from pride and teaches that faithful obedience, not personal strength or skill, is the true basis for confidence in accomplishing what God commands.
Path 3: Old Testament Wisdom/Prophecy
In Jeremiah 25–27, the Lord announces that Babylon will judge Judah and surrounding nations because they have persistently rejected his word. Jeremiah also declares that Babylon itself will eventually be judged. Through the yoke placed on Jeremiah, God asserts His sovereign authority over kingdoms and commands Judah to submit to his appointed discipline.
