Bible Reading Plan 9/27 to 10/3

Path 1: New Testament and Psalms

Acts 14–16: The gospel continues advancing among the Gentiles despite persecution, disagreement, and imprisonment. The Jerusalem Council rejects circumcision as a requirement for Gentile believers, affirming salvation by grace. Paul begins his second missionary journey, and God opens new territory through Lydia’s conversion and the dramatic salvation of the Philippian jailer.

The Jerusalem Council and Salvation by Grace: Acts 15 makes clear that Gentiles do not need to become Jews in order to belong to God’s people. Salvation rests on the grace of the Lord Jesus, not circumcision or ceremonial law. The council preserves both the unity of the church and the truth that justification comes through faith in Christ.

Path 2: Old Testament Pentateuch/History

Judges 18–19: Israel’s spiritual collapse becomes increasingly visible. The tribe of Dan establishes an idolatrous sanctuary using a stolen image and corrupt priesthood. Judges 19 then recounts horrific violence in Gibeah, showing what Israel becomes when covenant faithfulness disappears and everyone does what is right in his own eyes.

When Worship Becomes Self-Made: Judges 18 is especially troubling because the Danites still use the language and outward forms of religion. They have a priest, sacred objects, and worship, but it is worship designed according to their own desires rather than God’s commands. Biblical worship is not simply motions. It must be governed by God’s revealed Word.

Path 3: Old Testament Wisdom/Prophecy

Jeremiah 35–36: The obedience of the Rechabites sharply contrasts Judah’s refusal to obey God. Jeremiah then dictates God’s warnings to Baruch, but King Jehoiakim cuts the scroll apart and burns it. God simply commands Jeremiah to write it again, demonstrating that rulers may reject God’s Word, but they cannot silence it.
